What if I'm seeing a Talkiatry psychiatrist and therapist, but want to go off my medications?
Going off medication
We want you to feel comfortable with your treatment plan. Your psychiatrist is always here to make adjustments as your journey progresses. For your health and safety, never go off a medication without talking to your psychiatrist first. They’ll advise you how to do so safely.
Can I still see my Talkiatry therapist?
At Talkiatry, our therapists work closely with patients who are actively receiving psychiatric services as part of a team-based approach to care.
If you no longer want or need medication and are no longer seeing a Talkiatry psychiatrist, you may be able to continue receiving therapy services through Talkiatry.
If you eligible to continue therapy if you are discharged from psychiatry services for reasons such as:
- Completing treatment
- Or other non-clinical reasons
If your psychiatrist determines that you are no longer appropriate for therapy-only services (e.g., due to worsening symptoms without medication), they will work with you to arrange a safe transition of care, which may include a referral to external resources.
Be sure to talk with your psychiatrist and therapist about your decision, and they can help guide you through this process, including providing referrals if needed.
